Alanna Huling is a dance artist from Massachusetts, now based in New York. Alanna recently graduated with Honors distinction from Hofstra University with Bachelors of Arts degrees in Dance and Psychology and a minor in Political Science.
Alanna started her dance training in 2015 at Patti Eisenhauer Dance Center. Upon arrival to Hofstra University's Dance Program, she has continued her studies in ballet, contemporary, choreography, and modern, specifically Graham, Horton, and Taylor techniques. In addition to participating in works by renowned choreographers such as Doug Varone, Amanda Selwyn, Jesse Obremski, and esteemed Hofstra Faculty, Alanna has danced in upwards of 32 student-choreographed pieces in her time at Hofstra. Her most recent professional work was as a dancer for Dance Labs, filming several videos for social media content during the summer of 2022. Her appearances in their content have garnered almost 400 thousand views for their page.

At Hofstra University, Alanna has choreographed several pieces, for both departmental shows and extracurricular organizations. Between 2022 and 2023, Alanna created 3 works for Hofstra University's Danceworks Productions. Her latest work, “ExCommune '', premiered at Hofstra’s Student Rep in 2022, and was adjudicated at ACDA’s Northeast Regional Conference.The piece depicts how group dynamics shift and individuality spreads in a homogenous group as a result of a single disruption. Most recently, ExCommune was performed an at Roxey Ballet's River Dance Festival, featuring new sections with the original cast. As a finalist for Journey Dance Awards NYC showcase, Alanna choreographed Take My Word For It, which was selected for the NYC showcase at the SoHo Playhouse in August 2023.

Alanna has been teaching dance since 2016, and has experience teaching children of all ages contemporary, jazz, tap, lyrical, acrobatics, and conditioning. She is currently employed as a choreographer and instructor at JHL Dance Dynamics, where she teaches jazz, contemporary, jazz fusion, acro, and choreographs works for the studio’s competitive company. She has worked as an instructor at Dream Dance Fitness, where she taught introductory acrobatics and introductory pole dance classes. At DDF, she focused on teaching adults to embrace their sexuality, build their confidence, and learn to liberate their minds and bodies. Alanna is currently an Assistant Teaching Artist at Mark Morris Dance Center.
Leadership & Activism

Alanna has held multiple leadership positions in Hofstra’s Dance Department, specifically in MoVoM, the organization that represents the dance program and its students. She organized the most successful fundraiser in the organization’s history, where the proceeds were donated to the New York Foundation for the Arts. She acted as the liaison between students and faculty and communicated important updates and events. As former President of MoVoM, and her most recent endeavor was collaborating with Amy Miller to bring her workshop, “Artists as Agents of Change”, to the students. Alanna’s goals as a leader have been to create a safer space for dancers to create and explore, while encouraging them to advocate for themselves. She is adamant about modeling this behavior, and making space for others to do the same.

Alanna is currently an administrative intern with Amanda Selwyn Dance Theater. She is a large part of their work with NYC public schools through Notes in Motion Dance Theater.
